Even The Music Couldn'T Save Us Poem by Shaquay Spencer

Even The Music Couldn'T Save Us

We were both jamming to the music
We both knew the song would end
We wanted the DJ to play the song over and over
We wanted to spend forever in that moment
Even though it was our favorite song to dance to
We knew eventually we would stop dancing
Although we were feeling the beat
Eventually it got a little too fast
We both danced until we had no more strength
Even though it appeared to be our rhythm
It wasn't in reality we were off beat
But to us it was perfect
When the song ended I looked into your eyes
I knew as well as you that this was our last
Everyone on the dance floor knew
They stared all the while we danced without a care
They kept warning us
We didn't listen to them
We let the music drown them out
Didn't want to believe what was so apparent
We were in our moment
Listening to our song
Enjoying it like the song was going to play forever
Tried to get the DJ to play another song
Tried to make us dance again
Then it became apparent
The song ended
And so did we
We walked away
That is when I realized
Even the music couldn't save us

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
The poem is about a couple who were so in love that they didn't want to see what everyone else saw in their relationship. It is compared to dancing because when people dance people are having a good time not really caring about rhythm.
