Even As Poem by Edwina Reizer

Even As

Even as the sun
remembers to rise,
My body is reminded
to open up my eyes.
I find it easier to do this
when the clouds
don't cover the sun.
Gloomy days depress me
even before the day's begun.

Even as the rain
remembers to fall,
My body is reminded
to listen to it all.
For the sound gives me time
to think of what it means
to give the earth its drink.
Rainy days caress me
like teardrops make me blink.

Even as the moon
remembers to shine,
My body is reminded
to relax and unwind.
The day has been too busy
to appreciate how I
am connected to the moon
and connected to the sky
Even as I breathe.
