Even A House Needs A Home Poem by Bonnie Collins

Even A House Needs A Home

Rating: 5.0

Blowing in the wind, alone, with
broken hinges of torn shutters
battern and worn, faded paint
showing where barley once had
its own shine, sadly I thought, it
seems like a vision of what was
once, rather than what it could be

Glimmers of where once a family
would have been so prowd to have
been able to call home, now alone,
barin, and empty without a shadow
to even cast its ray of hope

Funny, how many times this old
house witheld so many storms of life
And now it only seems fitting that
someone should purchase it
Even a house needs a home.........

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

I totally see where you're coming from.. that is very true. it also is a great metaphor for lost friendships and dependency upon one..

I had never thought that a neglected house could be so sad. You put a new perspective on loneliness. I am glad that Nora recommended I read this poem. It is first rate poetry.

I can relate to this. A host of feelings rushed on me when the house I lived in for more than fifty years was sold. Every corner had a memory to be relived, even the worn out gate had a story to tell, the cracked patio tiles marked years of birthfday parties, the rusted balustrade evoked past elegance...it was the passing of glorious times into who knows what. Soulful write.

Yes so true the perspective even a house needs people to inhabit it hopefully with love. Great piece.
