Eternity: A Horrid Dream Poem by Bianca Free

Eternity: A Horrid Dream

Rating: 2.2

The lovely woman is just the fish, going downstream.
When she looks, water is all that she sees.
And the hungry man is only the bear, searching for food.
While he lives, a meal is all that he needs.
But I am among the divined, walking blindly.
I believe I am here trying to reach eternity.
So I jump, jump higher and higher, but stumble,
again and again never getting it right.
'Am I reading this instruction manual correctly?
It says on page five that I'm suppose to catch flight'
But my feet never lift off the ground, so I sorta ponder
if it's really eternity that I should be after.
'If I can't reach it quite yet,
I'll try to envision this 'forever'
and I'll see it for sure, I bet',
so with this thoughtful mind I think of something
Extending past the horizon of every sea,
Stretching through the realms of things known,
Slipping from the grasps of things seen.
And how it all frightens me like a horrid dream.
Is this really what I must pursue,
something without an end at all?
I'd rather be just a lovely fish of the stream
in the hands of a hungry bear's paw.
