Eternity Poem by Bireswar Halder

Eternity

In a welcome drizzle of a summer evening
Nature was showering its splendour on me
Rhythmic jingling of rains mesmerized me
Like a dancing girl with a string of bells.

Suddenly my sweetheart steps in slowly
With drenched saree stretched on her body
She stands with a ruddy bashfulness in face
As if a veiled Rebecca of Italian Benzoni.

I am swallowed by an aroma of divine beauty,
My heart pulsates, beating in poetic rhythms
Both are silent, cannot pour out words of my love
Though words gather in coves of my throbbing heart.

Oh rain, continue to fall incessantly
So that she can stay besides me across the night
To meet the bond both dreamed once
That divine togetherness, an unbounded love.

Oh thunder, rip the sky, and sound out frequently
So that she is dazed, comes closer and hugs me
And she sees her coyness sheds clouds for a joy
The joy of two souls gather into one eternity.
