Eternity Poem by Tessa Roods

Eternity

Eternity
Part One

I dreamt one night,
that I made my bed
with a pile of red brick
I found by the roadside.
As my knees slipped in,
it felt as soft as skin.
It wasn't until I jumped
A couple of times,
that I saw the mess
that was left behind.
I heard a voice from
below, yelling out:
'It's time to go'.
I laid down quietly
and held my breath,
until Life almost left
my bloody flesh.

The door finally
closed, and my Spirit
rejoiced my Lifeless Soul.
As I laid in solitude,
I no longer moved;
in each brick, a shard
of glass grew. I heard
my blood hit the floor;
with each ‘drop', my
Mind relinquished thought.
Fate took away fear, as
the light reappeared.
Before I let go, I traced
over my naked soul,
A prayer of gratitude.
I thanked my material
flesh, for giving me a
vessel to express.

As I reached my Heart,
I braced myself for the
most difficult part.
As she grasped for Life,
she kept screaming: ‘why! '.
The rest of me just
laid there quietly,
as she pleaded to
be spared the atrocity.

Again, the moment
had passed, to explain:
no matter the start -
they always find the
brick, that will tear the
other apart. It doesn't
matter the life, there is
never a place to hide;
as the story of this
kind, is etched on
every mountain side.
It's the secret language
of the heart; powerless to
interpretation, that
erects with each scar.

As everything slowed
from within, I knew
she wanted to jump
from my skin. To leave
me behind, so she could
find the man, that
called out each time.
As everything slipped
from me, I gave her the
same parting words
of each century:
‘Perhaps in the
next life, the two of
you, will get it right'.
