Eros Poem by Katrina Harms

Eros

Your heart is Pandora's box
It is the aching red sun- I shall fabricate
wings to know I have fallen for you.
Through the portal of space and time I have sought you,
the white stag of myth,
but at my nearing you grew leaves and roots
Alluding me in my lust.
I lit a candle to glance upon your sleeping form
But when you woke, I was transformed
into a pillar of salt, a visage of stone.
And on my lonely voyage home you
lured me with your song-
My exile, a rock of memory-
I knew your face, its sweetness-
But, oh, each day when you tear my liver
from my gut, leave the rest of me to rot
I curse the day I spied
through a mossy wall to glimpse
What I thought was loving innocence.
