Emptiness Poem by Grace Burke

Emptiness

I stand alone in the desert of life
Lost in the vastness of its loneliness
I thirst for the water of friendship
I yearn for the refreshing rain of love.

But all I see around me is emptiness
The scorched earth stretching on endlessly
There is no oasis to relieve me
There is not a cloud in the sky.

The vultures of despair circle round me
Waiting for me to either stumble or fall
Wearily I trudge on seeking solace
But from where? There is none to be found.
