Elevator Chat Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Elevator Chat

Elevator chat

Shorter by inch or two, he's Chinese
He wears white
Thinly lost in layers, in parka is foggy
Heavily bundled up
Looks at me, what I wear raises hands
Both thumbs up
I wonder what to do to reflect, or reply
Smile with a "Ni-Ha"
With signals he tells me I am young
"Shien-shien" I smile
All I wear is single sweater; turtle neck.
My belly sticks out
We don't share single word among us
Once again a signal
"It is big; it's no good; you must lose."
Pantomiming a walk
At first floor he departs with good-bye
I reply "Have no time"
With this he took away all my thought
I love such caring times
Encounter; sharing words with smiles
Isn't that lovely, kind?
