Eldest Brother Poem by Bernedita Rosinha Pinto

Eldest Brother

A son who feeds and cares for
his younger siblings,
A son who earns and helps
his parents to keep the hearth burning,
A son who finances the needs
to support the family,
A son who encourages the education
of his brothers and sisters,
A son who extends his care and concern
till his brothers and sisters grow into men and women;
such a man deserves
a gratitude for his contribution,
a respect for his benevolence
and peace to enrich his nobleness,
if not for that Eldest brother
who caught your little hands,
and helped you all walk the steps of life,
who would be your guide?
who would be your benefactor?
who would be that man from God
who did it all out of prudence and not for a price?
