Elderly Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Elderly

Elderly

Heard him say and hated
“Tell us all, we are young
Among us you’re the one.”

Example, the Master

He said and he meant that

He was right.

That is hard
How heavy
It could feel

Being old, unaware
I felt pain also shame

Elderly
Elderly
Elderly
Can it be?

Like a dog done the wrong
I held tail between legs
Repeated, my head down

The oldest
The oldest
The oldest
Can it be?

Repeated
It is hard
It is hard
It is hard

… when in charge …
