The united states justice system
is hell bent on destroying lives, and
it does, very, very well

Eat the poor
She looks away
once a well
now a shell
a can, a hand
unopened
and the lawyer
tells her she's okay
but she barely
hears him anyway
there's nothing left
to say
her bluster
where did it go?
and leave her there
so all alone
letting them crush her
we knowed some thugs
they sold some drugs
now she's never going home

Wow, Lyn. Profound. Wonderful title Eat the poor. I'm still digesting this poem but am pretty sure I love it! Thank you for reading my poem Broken and leaving your comment. Isn't writing cathartic? Best regards, Holly Jamestone [a former court reporter turned Author/Modern-Day Poet]
