Dying For Entertainment Poem by Charlotte Peters Rock

Dying For Entertainment

On the tele
tucked amongst the news
tucked between parades of victory
as boys return in glory
from The Gulf
there
for entertainment
stands a child

Sandals sticking
on the orange mudfield
manfully he raises each tired foot
Finally - in tears
he reaches standstill
quite bewildered
by the constant urging

One small Kurdish boy
with brother fleeing
sad amongst the mountains
next to Turkey
