Dust On The Bible Poem by Christopher G. Dion

Dust On The Bible

Upon the hour of his birth
the child was given a bible
and his parents sought to teach him well
the treasure that lied inside it As a child grew from boy to man
so did the dust which lied on his bible
for less and less did he seek it's lessons
and the treasured knowledge within As a full grown man his bible did stand
on a shelf now unrecognizable
and was thought of only when dark times fell
than forgotten the moment after Empty words of "I believe,
and that's all that matters."
Were spoken to ease a guilty mind
and cover the darkness witch lied inside him Then one day his bible was raised
and the dust was blown from off it
and as the words from dust to dust were spoken
the dust did fall silently upon the casket below
