Dust Devils Poem by Tsunami HiroshiSu

Dust Devils

There was once a girl who laughed
With big blue eyes and a foxy grin
She winked right after she was born and wandered off
To find new adventures
She was told what to do
For fate had a plan in mind
But she just winked

And she sneered at fate
Told them they could not tell her what to do
She rode the wind
Swept over the world
Leaving chaos in her wake
And swirling dust devils gathered in her shadow

She threw away her watch
And lived her life under the sun
She crossed oceans on wings of white feathers
Her voice filled up canyons
And she walked along the sand
Never ever leaving footprints
So no one dared follow her
But the dust devils who tagged behind

She was handed a destiny unlike any other
She handed it back
Certain her life would be her own
But it was not her own
For she touched everyone and they changed her
And sometimes her eyes would sparkle with sadness
Sometimes her smile would droop
When she could not stand to wink
Some things don't seem particularly funny
And she was never the same again

We are all a web
But she set sail on a dew drop
Sliding across a silken strand
Testing to see if it would snap
Laughing at the challenge

But dust devils still hunted her
And one day they caught up to her
She fought bravely
But in the end
They killed her

And the world darkened just a little
And the wind howled sad and low
The canyons fell silent
Nothing but her sweet, sweet
Echo
And the waves washed over the sand
The world cried softly as she left it

They tried to take her soul
But she laughed and took it back
She left the world and flew into the stars
To trace pictures there
Where darkness is deepest she placed a star
And she rode a comet across the horizon
Laughing at those who thought they could stop her.
