Dry Skin Poem by Sello Matsepe

Dry Skin

Africans we were dry
Dry from where we emanates
God created us of a dry skin
Where Africans lives was based on animals
Animal skins was the only prevailing factor to cover our genital parts
No we are not born of a sin

African never laughed another for being naked
We were born naked
Children learned wisdom and recitations orally but not written
Children were dished in a single calabash
African child was taught a lesson by African on the path
No we are not born of sin

Africans lived until the head turned to grey hair and the skin tattered
The was no existence of incurable diseases
Our traditional medication never had a measurement of cylinder
We used oracle to pray and to predict the future
No we are not born of a sin

On birth the umbilical cods are cut and planted on the land
Later they bear the seed that grow deep down and sideward
Later the seeds bear a prominent fruit
Fruit which is gold, Platinum, Copper and Diamond
Nations flow to us like a Plaque of Locust
To boon the fruits of our umbilical cots
No we are not born of a sin
No we are not born of a sin
