A drop of rain brings forth
The stowed perfume of the ground
It rises at dusk, the wet damp earth odour
A story it brings of mystery and joy
I flick wet leaves and sticks with intent
To release the flow of it from forest floor
And deep hollow of shadow
I breathe this nectar
Of bees feet that make the honey
Of caterpillar skin that make butterflies
Of scent of bat and cologne of woodpecker
It makes me dizzy with delight
This earth odour here on the forest floor
This enchanting evening in summer
With my ear and nose and eyes
I wait and pray for another drop of rain.
