Dropping Illusions Poem by something changing

Dropping Illusions

(a song...)

You've got a look in your eyes that tells me
You'll be gone by the morning light
I can feel in my bones
You're not coming home again

I guess the only question that I care to ask
is where did I go wrong
If trying my best just wasn't enough
Why did I ever go along with this
lovely endeavor? This illusion of never
letting go?

I say my goodbyes in silence
You won't see the tears in my heart
I'll suck up my pain, make the tears go away
Because you're not coming home again

I guess the only question that I care to ask
is where did I go wrong?
If trying my best just wasn't enough
Why did we drag this out so long?
Our lovely endeavor... this illusion of never
having to let go. I guess I'll let you go...
