Dreams That Cannot Die

Rating: 5.0

I
Thoughts of youth are very long,
and thoughts of middle age are shorter,
but both drown in old age, a song
whose weary airwaves turn to water.

Thoughts of old age do not count
as much as thoughts of middle age,
and neither of them can surmount
the thoughts of youth they can’t upstage.

Don’t think of thoughts of youth when old,
and know in middle age your thoughts
no longer count. Their tale is told,
without a need for long reports.

Songs of youth are destined to
be lost, but always strike a chord
when middle and old age review
the past, and all thoughts are ignored
