Dreams Recalled Poem by David Harman

Dreams Recalled

Of dreams recalled
Like prisons walled
In faintest bas relief
A home is there
in grand despair
Near land, like coral reef

Afar from there
But yet not here
My long lost family and friends
Alone at last
A grim repast
Too late to make amends

The nights are dark
No electric spark
To lighten hearts of men
Turbines stopped
Time's not clocked
No one's there to turn them

I walk this land
No gun in my hand
For what I kill, I cannot eat
My soul is dried
From all I've cried
I've witnessed man's defeat

Springtime's gone
Though summer's long
The fall has yet to come
I see that winter
It's ever deeper
So long, the birds have sung
