Drakes Poem by Robbie Brereton

Drakes

Male ducks are called Drakes.
When will the bus be here?
It shouldn't be late. That's not right.
We need to press the button to make the driver stop
or we can't get off.

Male ducks are called Drakes.
I want a fruit shoot and a big bourbon.
You can read and I'll eat around the chocolate
then we will go to Waterstones
and I'll look at books
and you can go
and then the 50p sweet shop
and watch the trains on the bridge
go under our feet and shake.

Male ducks are called Drakes.
Now the canal to watch the ducks
but male ducks are called Drakes
not ducks
and white ducks are called Swans.

Male ducks are called Drakes.
These stones shouldn't be on the path
Someone could trip.
They go in the water and make zeros
and tubes
but mind the ducks
because they don't like zeros.

Male ducks are called drakes.
Now we have to wash our hands
with soap because germs
from stones and mud and books
get on hands.
Now we have to dry them so we aren't wet.

Male ducks are called drakes.
When will the bus be here?
When we go home I will play trains
and you can go
away.
Then we will watch Ice Age 3
because I have seen Ice Age 1 and Ice Age 2 and Ice Age 4.

Male ducks are called drakes.
