Don'T Leave, Daddy! Poem by Sophia Smith

Don'T Leave, Daddy!

Rating: 4.8

I sat there watching them.
I'd seen it a million times before.
It went on AM through PM.
But, this time, daddy put a suitcase by the door.
Why did they always fight?
I watched as he said to Mom,
'He could not wait until she was out of sight'
I quietly recited part of the book of Psalms.
I could feel the tears in my eyes start to flow.
i ran to my dad as he turned to leave,
Letting go of him was slow
Even though my hand grabbed his sleeve.
All I could say was
'Don't leave me, daddy'
Is this what love does?
All I heard him say was, 'I love you, Addie'
I watched in horror
Daddy headed out the door, never to return
My head started borer.
But my mom's grip was stern.
I sunk in a ball on the floor
Hoping I would wake up from this nightmare.
I was sad and tore
Did you not care?
Now I sit here, on 'father's day'
Watching my friends and their father.
Why did you go away?
In your head, was there the least bit of bother?
You left me standing there,
Not even saying good-bye
I hope you remember my last words that I did blare.
'Don't leave me, Daddy! '

This poem of yours broke my heart. I am one of the fathers who have left and it so hard. Good poem. Very very well done.
