Don’s Pond Poem by Marilyn Lott

Don’s Pond

Rating: 2.8

I’d like to tell you about a man
That meant so much to me
He helped me when my husband died
To find a little tranquility

He had a terrible childhood
And as a teen he ran the streets
But he was a very lucky kid because
There was a minister that he’d meet

The minister adopted him
And gave him a good home
So Don too became a minister
And no more would he need to roam

Years went by after my loss
And when I got married once more
There was a pond not far from my home
As I drove to the mall and stores

Don became a pilot along with many things
And one day he was flying low
Past this little pond with lilies
I don’t know where he planned to go

But his plane went down this fateful day
And though he didn’t die at the scene
Several years of recuperation he had
And then death it finally did bring

So now when I drive by this spot
Though I know he’s far beyond
I think of him every time because
To me it is now Don’s Pond!

Wow a very sad poem, but good to have had a friend like that. I enjoyed it very much. Loyd
