Do You Love Me? Poem by Samudeen M.A. Ilimu

Do You Love Me?

Why did I believe those lies?
Hypnotized by the beauty in your eyes
You acted like the perfect one to marry
Some letdowns, difficult to bury

I thought I was your one and only
Till death do us part, what a folly!
Every cell in me responded to your voice
I was so sure I'd made the right choice

Do I let go or keep hoping?
On that tiny thread I'm holding
It's either now or never to parry
The lion outruns itself when hungry

What's the use of a heart broken?
It's sold for a mere token?
This is beyond the normal bargain
Nothing beats the emotional pain

Dancing unconsciously to the tune of your deceit
Sprinting beyond the lightning Bolt at your behest
All that promise of happiness blown away
Off every beaten path lies an exciting new way

Do you love me?
Did you ever love me?
