# Do You Lie Poem by Mamta Agarwal

# Do You Lie

Rating: 2.9

My, you look gorgeous.
Ha, that dress is hideous…

Why, you look so cool
Whom are you trying to fool?

She stood with a broad smile
Let her in, cursing all the while.

How are you, couldn’t be better,
Why ask, does it really matter.

What a pleasant surprise, welcome…
How do I give her a hint not to come?

Your debut in the film was really awesome.
My, how regressive and tiresome…

Our lives are a sham and a lie.
Can we give honesty a try…?

What is it, that makes us demean
Ourselves by saying things we don't mean

Is it all about p's and q's
It all began as social cues...

or is it a lie is not a lie,
if it makes someone happy thereby...

Very good poem. wonderful topic u selected. Yes often we lie to please others as a matter of social compulsion. On a lighter vein a 60 year husband tells his 58 year old wife 'with passing days you are growing more and more beautiful' may be just for a cup of coffee...ha ha ha..

A 'Lie'... to whom? Lie can't be aimed at others It's aimed at one's own sense It’s that you don't believe But uttered with an intention. Your last line is superb... It’s a 'Consolation' to oneself That one's lie is to make others happy. A listener of a lie, when is strong. Lies are just flies to him. It’s here today and there tomorrow Doesn’t matter around. Dear Poet, you gave me good grass to eat At the very first sight of this day. Nice and simple, Your usual style. Thank you.

our falsity is other's joy...so why not? let's seek our happiness in making others happy in these lives condemned to flasehood!

Yes Madam I do agree, and follow the dictates of those last two lines - to remain 'bindas' and free! -Raj Nandy
