Do Not Hold Me Fast Poem by Aimanu B. Ali

Do Not Hold Me Fast

Rating: 5.0

There she lies like a defeated soldier
Armour bloody and torn
The battle-worn face no more sanguine
Her body frazzled and languid.

Our lives seem bound by time and tide
Together till death do us part
Sometimes I despise this bond and her
Spreading tentacles to drain out my sap.

I don't even try to shake it off
A smug contentment in this servitude
My limbs are numb with loyalty
I am Electra though of another kind.

I remember the Nazi spirit
Herr Hitler hateful Fuhrer
The same zeal in pursuance of a theory
Impeccable to her in spirit and form.

We were no less than the Jews
Huddled inside the camp
A correction camp more German
Life continued in the world outside
Like some distant dreams.

This frail form seemingly powerless
Life ebb out drop by drop everyday
The moon past the height of her glory
Walking slowly to a predefined end.

She is like the moon
Pulling me incessantly
To her barren land
In a high tide I rise up
As the billowy brine.

Powerless against her might
In the waning moonlight
The vast stretch of the sea lies calmly
Her bosom reflecting the celestial form.

I want to break free like the big waves
Dance in the glittering sunbeams
The sun is so far away
I am doomed to live with the dying moon.

With the vastness of the sea I try
I try hard to embrace her and all
Drooping eyelids acknowledging a bond
I let the tyrants claim over my body.

You have a daring soul...i think those who have the knack to die, equally have the skill to live, and they deserve to live! ! !
