Divine Exercise Poem by Marie J. Christopher

Divine Exercise

I love this hour of intimacy; all my thoughts seem to be Yours;
In adoration, my soul merges into Oneness with the Divine
How can I describe Your joy, my desire for our soul-heart Oneness, most benign and entwined?
Enshrining your love perpetually, Eucharist You had invented
For You to be with us, invited
As the fresh bright light, You have come to change fear and despair to hope and love
You then died to give us life, eternal from Above
Now for the love of You, I simplify all things with love, in love
Let love be mainspring for all my actions
In my brethren, I believe, I hope, I love; with Your thoughts and Your heart
Confront others' hatred, to Your broken heart, I will lend my comfort
I will love until it hurts, as more I love, more I want to love
For true love is never fulfilled, never satisfied
Daily time, moments of love dialogue, I now set aside
Abide in you, I seek You in the secret chamber of our heart
At night, waking up, I seek You, for never being apart
Impart my most tender greeting, at dawn, I embrace
You, my Grace-ious Lord, Whom I have searched, longed for, now loved for all lifetime
With an endless love which can never be displaced
I once searched; You allowed Yourself to be caught
Now my heart being captive in you, I have besought
In thoughts, in time, in deeds, I become One with You
With the greatest, the most foolish Lover
Who once had died on the Cross to love me, and all.

(The hour of divine exercise has been hard to come by, but the Lord said to me, ' Vary and improvise.' All for the Glory of God! !)
