Divided Poem by Cory Fox

Divided

Will someone please explain
How we became this way?
Because I am at a loss
Somehow we found this great divide
Where we both took a side
And vowed never again to cross

When you claimed the high road
And you’d unraveled the code
Did you feel justified?
As your malice has shown
It was no logic alone
Brother, you’ll die in your pride

The treasures we feel
Like love can’t be real
When your hollow spirit denies
But a far bleaker fate
Rattles at the gate
Brother, don’t cover your eyes

When you’ve got the world at your door
Say what their ears are itching for
And you’ll be drunk from their cheers
But I will sing “Lord’s will be done”
Even if I’m the only one
Brother, don’t cover your ears

And so we stand at our divide
Each as stubborn as the tide
Salvation my only goal
So why do you refuse to see
That I am not your enemy?
Brother, I mourn your soul
