Discouragement Speaks Poem by Phyllis Strong

Discouragement Speaks

I know the race is not to the swift
And the battle to the strong,
But when you pace like the tortoise
The race takes too long.
I'm loosing my strength carrying a burden
That makes me strong.

I could kick myself
For the things I haven't gotten done.
People in this world applauding
The liars and cheaters that won.

I'm tired of just having enough
To make ends meet.
My feet aching every night,
‘Cause of the worn out shoes on my feet.

Unemployment check was more money
Than my job;
Something's wrong with that picture
So sad, I wanna sob.

I was carjacked in broad daylight
He pointed a gun to my face;
Now you know that's not right.

I've been told "No" so many times
You would think that's my first name
The value I see in myself
They must not see the same.

It seems like the system
Benefits the rich and the poor
The middle class barely making it….
Now that's my discouragement uproar.
