Dirge Of Divorce Poem by Nalini Jyotsana Chaturvedi

Dirge Of Divorce

It was always
All about you
You were there
In my thoughts
all through.

My favourite colour
My favourite dish
When I saw the rainbow
I made that just one wish

For your long life
And good health
I loved fasting
Appeasing god heads

Loved rushed through me
With just your one look
How could you not feel
You were my favourite book

But things have changed
As you had planned
With your beatings
I have bled
The love that was
Is drained and dead

Now last rituals
Rights of passage
No heartfelt words
Just what judge says

A piece of paper
To tear us apart
No more man and wife
Just strangers from afar.

We'll turn our back
And walk away
Stooped shouldered
Memories to tow away
