Devotion Poem by Helen S B

Devotion

Broken beyond hope
Drifting all alone
In this river of life
That flows from you.

Often I fail
Once again I fall
Walking blinded and bound
in the vale of darkness.

It’s been years
Since I was cast
In to this pain,
this constant fetter
beyond all sane.
I am asked to breath-
while I drown...
I am forced to praise-
while I am plagued...
This I may do
but this please tell me:
How am I to read -
a book never written?
How am I to sing -
a song, never hummed?
To love a man
I never met?
To wait for him-
who never promised!

But now I am asking thee-
the reason!
And you tell me-
the story of devotion.

Slowly, wearily
I see a light spread;
a hand to unlock
the chains and the door.
In trust is the strength
In rest lay salvation
In quietness I give it all
learning submission...
to thee and thy will.
Recalling thy sacrifice
for me on that hill.

Crimson and pale
Dividing the age
Breaking all cords
Forever to reign
By giving it all
to God- You became
Devotion!
