Desperation Poem by John Thorkild Ellison

Desperation

Now and then when I'm alone
And hear the wind in the rafters begin to moan
My memory will explode
With a vision of you crying in the rain.
What are you doing on that lonely road?
Why is your expression filled with so much pain?
What happened to our love?
Why are you standing on that lonely road?
I get no answer from the skies above,
My fear and guilt make such a heavy load.
I want to hold you tight,
I want to drive the suffering away,
I want you here beside me in the night,
To hold you close until the coming day,
But is this just a hopeless dream
To staunch the bleeding of a broken heart?
Are things as bleak and cruel as they seem?
Will you be gone forever when we part?
