Desert Flower Poem by Ruta Mohapatra

Desert Flower

Rating: 5.0

I am a desert flower
Used to long dry spells
Sand storms, cold nights
Hot sun, shifting dunes

No delicate hands tend to me
No soft fertile bed to scatter my seeds
My children will be sturdy like me
And learn to survive the desert wind

So all you soft and delicate ones
Do not compare yourselves to me
I do not have your soft petals
I do not have your delicate hues

But what I have, you do not have!
