Depression Is Poem by Darian Mason

Depression Is

Depression is
Depression is
Depression is
It's just that.
It isn't a word. It's this long empty.
Depression is
Depression is what? I don't know.
But
Depression isn't many things.
Depression isn't kind. It isn't explanatory. It isn't something you can shove under something and hide because what is depression? How can you hide something that is…that is?
If I tried to use words I would say depression is nothing. You feel nothing. When you're caught in it you would give anything to feel
To feel
To feel
To feel something.
Even if that something was hate. Or greed. Or anger.
Anything other than nothing.
That nothing feeling brings on what can be best explained as sadness. But it isn't regular sadness.
Sad is described. Sad has situations that explain itself. Depression does not.
Sad is moving away from the only family you knew since you were born. Sad is losing touch with old friends. Sad is a movie, sad is a break up, sad IS and depression is
Is what?
Depression isn't.
Long. Empty. Nothing.
Depression is nothing.
Depression isn't anything until it's something.
Maybe something is just ending.
Ending that is…that is?
Is what?

A very well written poem about an almost undefinable phenomenon. I pray and sincerely wish for a steady good healing process for anyone affected by it. Thought provoking poem
