Deny The Flesh Poem by Michael P. Johnson

Deny The Flesh

Man’s spirit always should command
Man’s soul should Christ obey
But sinful flesh will take a stand
And try to win the day

Self keeps us, from the final leap!
Self keeps us falling short
Though fasting puts the flesh to sleep
Through faith in Christ’s report

But who’ll deny their selfish lust
Who’ll set their face as stone?
Who’ll sit like Job within the dust?
And feed on Christ alone?

Who’ll place their faith in Christ God’s Son?
Who’ll walk the extra mile?
Who’ll pray until the victory’s won?
With flesh in self denial

Who’ll say in truth “I love You so? ”
To Christ God’s Lamb on high
Then tell the devil where to go?
Telling their flesh to die?

Who’ll make to God such sacrifice?
Who’ll give to God their all?
Who’ll live for Him who paid the price?
That none in Him should fall

Say “Yes” receive The Holy Ghost
God’s gift to Jesus’ bride
Say “Yes” and join God’s mighty host
Who’ve cast the world aside

True strength will come to those who wait
Who’ll seek from God the way
Who’ll trust in Christ what ere their fate
Until the youngest day
