Denial Poem by Lacey UnKnown

Denial

This poem is based off of George Herbert's poem Denial.

As I sit quiet and I pray
I find no strength
To ever arise for another day.
My mind fills up with thoughts
Of suicide.

Dark, gray, and destitute
I cry to You
My lips, they move; but my voice is mute
My prayers fly away, empty
Discontented.

You hear my plea, “O come, God, come.”
To no avail
I moan and groan ‘til I’m finally numb.
I sob until I’m hoarse
Still no answer.

Why, O God, do I have a voice
To cry to you
When it seems as though I have no choice?
Though I cry out to You
There is no sound

My soul lies broken, on the floor
Alone, undone.
I lie abandoned, useless and poor
Like a dying rose,
Disaffected.

Show me, My Lord, that you are there.
Father don’t delay
God help me feel You everywhere
Beloved One, Yawe,
With You I stay.
