Defective Genie Poem by Adam Holmes

Defective Genie

The lonely man sits at the bar
Round after round…
His emotions turn raw
Bottle of beer always half empty
Jukebox belts out another melancholy tune
Don’t invest hope in love songs
This bank’s been broke too many times
A forum for addictive minds
These threads were stitched by sinners’ prayers
Once, twice, twenty times over
He empties a bottle
Looking for a genie to grant his wish
History repeats,
His past looks at him from the bathroom mirror
Then…
The man walks out
