Deepawali - The Festival Of Lights

Deepawali

Deepawali - the festival of brilliant lights
And yet there will be darkness in many lives
Deepawali - the festival of a million sweets
And yet there will be bitterness in several mouths
Deepawali - the festival of binge drinking and food
And yet there will be several without one meal a day
Deepawali - the festival of new designer clothes
And yet we will see several in torn dirty garments
Deepawali - supposed to be rich in compassion
And yet we will have destitutes tapping at our car windows……..

A sad but hidden side to this festival of joy...
COMMENTS OF THE POEM

Thank you for sharing this important read about celebrations- -whether they are Christmas festivities or Thanksgiving festivities or Deepawali - the festival of brilliant lights it is sadly true there are many people with their faces pressed against the window looking in but not invited in. Good observations here.
