GRANT FRASER

(JUNE 7 1964 / ABERDEEN)

Deep

I sat down today
on the old shitey pier,

where all the stuff used
to come out,

I mean I sat there gazing deep
into the water,

then I thought I saw a mermaid,
and maybe even a giant crab
or a dead body,

the seaweed danced, it's long
brown hair,

part of me wanted to go down
there, part of me didn't,

the clouds looked heavy,

I was bored, but in love,

Earth the ocean is you
rolling about,

and I am just what,

this thing waiting, almost stranded,

words why don't you just circle
around me, protect my lack of self meaning,

God I need a shell to live down here,

or the thick skin you gave to many,

And ye know - I think I've done my
fair share of diving...

Poem of the Day

poet Dante Gabriel Rossetti

Young Love lies sleeping
In May-time of the year,
Among the lilies,
Lapped in the tender light:
White lambs come grazing,
White doves come building there:
