December Underground Poem by Aiden Florence

December Underground

Frozen.
Winter.
Ice.

Temperature is dropping
Making the platform of ice
Over the lake
So much stronger than ever before

This is where morals come to grief
Thinking back everything they lost
In the bitter blizzard of December atmosphere

Beneath the ice
You and I remain
Frozen alive
Stuck together
Unable to let go of each other

We hold each other
To keep ourselves in high temperature
Fighting the acrimony of December
Knowing how pointless resistance is for us
We can’t be saved

Morals come to grief us
Day after day
All of this seems so unreal
Like a revolution
Finally happening to us
On the brink of our end
Lying under the ice together
In our deathbed.

One day I arise again to my feet
Only to realize that you’re not here standing next to me.
