December-In-May Marriages. Poem by Lonnie Hicks

December-In-May Marriages.

Rating: 2.6

Misplacements:
Oh, If I only had the wisdom
of my later years
coupled with the enthusiastic non-wisdom of my youth.

If only I had my twenties body
with the passion of my fifties.

Oh, if only I had the child-rearing insights
of my later years
and the energy of that 23 year old.

Ah men, if I really chose the dashing one
I so loved at 18
would I have the devotion and dependability
of the 55 year old?

What I need
apparently
is a 55 year old
with the mind of 23
and the body of 19
and a ravenous appetite
for things
romantic and sweet.

Throw in some innocence
and the vision is complete.

If I am male
then things change
and reverse.
And the secret long kept is out.

As Johnny Male
I maybe will seek
the 23 year old
able to bear 8 kids;
I'll get innocence
rather than critique;
strong body
the family
to complete.

So maybe it is not such a bad idea
to have May-December marriages.
First or second wives
or husbands- the extended family.

What do you think?
