Deadly, Toxic, Dreary Monday Blues Poem by Leah Ayliffe

Deadly, Toxic, Dreary Monday Blues

Rating: 2.8

Deadly, toxic, dreary Monday blues.
Seeing people pass through.
The faceless souls under the moon.
I don’t want to be like them,
Dreaming in dreams, in things, in sleep.
I don’t want to be like them,
Hiding in quiet, lost in the crowd.

I stay up to kiss the sun.
I wrap myself in heavens arms.
You love me cause I tell you to,
I’m your dream girl, born a star.
I won’t close my eyes another moment.
I surround my days with thoughts of you.
You hold me up, I wear a halo,
I’m smiling like a freedom angel

Deadly, toxic, dreary Monday blues.
You and I boy, like to drown in these days.
Like a jazzy autumn night,
A hip hop summer’s day.
There is no one else to tell us what to do.
The crowd moves on,
We howl, we sing our truth

I stay up and walk the streets at night,
Lonely girl with a dying mind.
Trapped in a fantasy of sadness.
I’m not as sad as I look.
Happiness in colours of yellow dreams.
You say I’m lovely dressed in all my thoughts,
My thoughts of black and gold, you love them so

I see palm trees, I see lemonade,
I see you and me, how we used to play.
Painting our lives with brushes of light,
Dancing like creatures distorted in a dreamy way.
We tell ourselves we aren’t like them,
We don’t want to be like them or anyone.
Shining brighter and darker than red district streets.

Deadly, toxic, dreary Monday blues,
In a tropical summer dress twirling on, and on.
A sadness of breath, singing a bluesy song.
You watch, you smile, you cry just a little,
Lightning flashes on your broken mind.
Sweet child, I’m your sweet child, your baby girl,
And you’re all mine in this whole cruel world.

This is it my darling, this is it
Is it everything you ever wished for?
I laugh for you with a red bow tied in my hair,
For some while lying on the grass.
As the hours pass, kiss kiss.
Wild ones, ignited by fiery hearts.
Let’s live out the rest of our days on the run,
In love, in love, in love
