Dead Reckoning Poem by Daniel Martinez, J.D.

Dead Reckoning

Rating: 5.0

A DEAD RECKONING

A ready heart, a passion so strong
For thy inner soul can never be wrong
Moving in stride with a thought high above
Eluding the tides to soar like a dove

Reaching the high rocks to feel the emotion
Bigger than ponds absorbing the ocean
Steady breezes blows through thy hair
Of one of the lady’s so true and so fair

Reach out to grasp a beauty of rays
Thinking so wildly as the clouds jump and play
Reacting to sight she gestures to calm
Enlightens a path she wishes you palm

Lurking in silence the waves start to crash
Breaking the form with a feverish smash
Exclaiming its power with actions that speak
Leaving behind a trail that is bleak

Launching a wish of lovely desire
Raising suspicion that burn like a fire
Uncertain and weary expecting misgiving
Last in his moments of the now and the living

Believing or not the joy to await
Could this be the moment or just good old bait
Nearer the presence of the being so striking
Carrying forthwith a response to his liking

Extending to grasp the vision so near
Running and clearing at the first sense of fear
Subtle in movement still and compose
As not to awaken the beast that arose

Vision behold at last the horizon
Steady and bold a glimpse of a mizzen
Contact was made and relief was in sight
Noting to self that all is alright

Wonderful poem, Daniel. The last punch line gives it a bit philosophical touch...10/10. Best Wishes. Naseer
