Dawn Poem by Surhdique Adeogun

Dawn

I hear her call on me
Piercing into my ear
And whispering mellifluously
Each syllable of my name.
She prods me to call off slumber
And rise up to the challenge of a day.

I hear her songs
The songs of dawn
Arise she says
And her glittering rays
Shinning bright into my eyes.

She succeeds a companion
Which hitherto had me asleep,
Dawn and Night
Working hand-in-hand.
The latter a soother
And the former a rouser.

I now being conscious
Still hear her silent whispers
But which I cannot recall.

I hearken for the call of dawn
For it is a sharp reminder of a day's task.
I wait to hear the call of dawn
For without it
The world is asleep.
Take charge dawn
And brighten up my world.
