Date With An Angel (Song For Becky) Poem by Gil Tee

Date With An Angel (Song For Becky)

I was late for a date with an angel
I was stuck in a traffic jam
I was late for a date with an angel
I was on my way to see The Lamb
Well, I honked my horn and I could have sworn
I was starting to wish that I’d never been born
‘Cause I knew that girl would be so mad
If I didn’t make it for the date we had.

I was late for a date with an angel
I was screaming down the motorway
I was late for a date with an angel
On my way to see the Christmas play
Then the blue lights flashed and the sirens clashed
And the traffic police said I was driving too fast
I said “But my little girl’s gonna be so sad
If the show has to go on without her dad”.

“I’m running late for a date with an angel
Is there a chance of a police escort?
I’m running late for a date with an angel
And you look like you’re the helpful sort.”
I saw that policeman grin as he rubbed his chin
He said “I think I really ought to run you in
But as it’s Christmas and you seem to care
We’ll do our best to get you there.”

Well, I made it for that date with an angel
I got to see the nativity play
My little girl was an angel
But she doesn’t always act that way
She often screams and shouts and she lashes out
Never does as she is told when I’m about
I think she’s gonna be the death of me...
But I guess I’ll love her till eternity.

Beautiful tribute to being a brilliant dad and the police are not always that bad! lol Little girls can be just as devilish as little boys, worse some parents say. Yes you will love her for eternity, love lasts that long at least. Smiling at you, Tai
