Dancing With Our Follies Poem by G. Akanji Olaniyi

Dancing With Our Follies

DANCING WITH OUR FOLLIES

Without minding our follies
Which have led to our predicament
Without minding our troubles
Which have brought the stalemate
Let us bring out our drums, and gongs, and flutes
Call our friends and neighbours
Adorn the children with garments
Call off the hunger strike; whose efficacy is still in doubt
Because their ears and eyes are blocked
Let us march to the open ground; young ones in front, adults behind.

Then let us dance with our follies
For we have failed to see the handwriting on the wall
Unable to make use of our sense of reasoning
Stayed too long fighting our shadows
We have ended up beating ourselves
The dead, for now, shall not come to life.
