Dancing On An Ice Burger

Sometimes I feel like I am dancing,
upon an ice burger,
floating aimlessly,
out into a stormy sea,
melting ice below me,
waiting for the salt waters,
to crawl up to my knees,
dancing as the ice is cracking,
falling into little pieces,
all around me,
just as dusk arrives,
I know there is no way,
I will survive.

poet Henry Lawson

The old year went, and the new returned, in the withering weeks of drought,
The cheque was spent that the shearer earned,
and the sheds were all cut out;
