Dancing In Sonnet Time Poem by Thomas Vaughan Jones

Dancing In Sonnet Time

Rating: 5.0

If anyone should feel inclined to try
to write a sonnet, I will understand
that first you may feel diffident and shy.
Pick up your pen and let me guide your hand.
Imagine first, you want to sing a song.
Iambic meter helps you keep in time.
Your notes must match the music. Teach your tongue
these lyrics. Oh! And don’t forget to rhyme.

Emotion rules in this poetic form.
Despair and Joy. The essence of a tear
display a tone much higher than the norm.
The flagship of all poetry is here.
So if you feel you want to take a chance,
take your position. Ready? Shall we dance?

A very good lesson on sonnet writing. My book of Shakespeares sonnets shows each line starting with capital letters. Is that the proper way? Either way, just plain good.I just posted a new one on my 89 birthday-please read

I like that a lot and it is a great way to explain a sonnet. I wish more people had a try at different verse forms, it can be fun and a challenge.

Ah, the wonderful Sonnet - what would we do without it. A great example Thomas, good one.
