Culture Poem by Mishack Mchunu

Culture

Hail culture! I was told; in you there is stature,
Maturity and prosperity, you are the boundary
Between boys and men, between girls and women
The completion of nature, you are the future!

Prevail culture, like a lion in the jungle, be a soldier
In the struggle, for the night has come. The fight
Has began, war against you! Be a warrior grow bolder
Shine in our race like the myriad stars, give us light!

Lo! But you have risen above your heights
Grown beyond your weights, looked far from your eyes.
My journey with you has no destiny! Farewell
You dwell with the fallen angel; go well I hope you escape hell.

But culture, I could have loved you better
But you stand in the way of Yahweh; I hate you bitter.
