Cruising Poem by Juan Olivarez

Cruising

Rating: 5.0

Cool Ray Polaroid, shades on my eyes,
Dallas Cowboy cap, completes my disguise.
In my 67 Mustang, I'm cruising around,
With my 289, I'm doing the town.

Cruising on tenth street, going real slow,
Headlights coming on, in the twilight glow.
Reving the engine, she sure sounds tough,
My little fastback can really play rough.

Theres that short blond in her GTO,
Giving me the eye, everywhere I go.
And the El Camino, with the Garza twins,
White teeth flashing, nothing but grins.

Here comes Manny with his 442,
That monster Cutlass in red, white, and blue.
And Teo in his Camaro, smoking his tires,
If he's not careful, he'll be starting fires.

Chuy in his Impala, is lining her up,
At the light against Jerry, in his Ford pickup.
The screaming of tires, and smoke fills the air,
As they head for the border, both taking the dare.

There's a red Maverick, with over sized tires,
And a little green Vega full of 'Desire e'
And Jesse the king, in his Chevelle Malibu,
He blows off their doors, leaving them blue.

Head lights burning, on the beautiful hues,
Beautiful paint jobs, reds, greens, and blues.
Tires black as night, with raised letters in white,
Showing off muscle, and eight cylinder might.

Radios blasting out, rock and roll,
Every single song, screams solid gold.
Laughter and merryment, fill the air,
The sweet bird of youth, on faces so fair.

Pulling into a Sonic, for a burger and fries,
Theres the short blond, with the beautiful eyes.
Sitting in her GTO working on a float,
Smiling at me and wiggling, out of her coat.

There is a plethora, of muscle cars,
Here at the Sonic, under the stars,
Everybody is peaceful, happy and free,
September twelve,1973.

6/4/10 29 palms ca.
